Originally the album was made by writing two songs a day for six days, with an instrumental created on the seventh day. So that left three songs unreleased, and two created for this collection. Work done painstakingly and with much effort for the unreleased songs, and hastily but without hesitation, for the new ones.
Voices carry up from the undertow
Where are we going?
How long is the way?
Forty years gone in an instant
Coffee drowned in the bottom of my cup
Silver lake always somewhere far off on the horizon
It's a nesting bird
And I'm ripe for illusion in these cold desert evenings
Every night I see your face
Huddle up for warmth with someone else
Backtrack for my sentences to carry water
Make my living on bad checks
Town to town is running up my electric bill
Running up that goddamn hill for no one
Keepsakes given, family heirlooms
In a glass menagerie crackling in the fire
Visionary angels can't decide what's best or worst here
This is no time for philosophy
Dialectic, sentimental in the wake of you
Or something lost in me that you let go
In another life
Someone else's trauma you don't recognise
Not that you ever cared for mirrors
I've been dreaming with apocalyptic fervour
Tents pitched on the open plain for the revival
My sermon all hellfire and bullets
But it's not what I mean
All the words come out twisted and soundless
Carry the void, b roll footage on the tarmac
When the sucker punch tyrants get the better of me
Salome, no one will be left alive to tell of how we lived
Are you feeling lonely? Maria,
Tonight
Your man has left you wondering
You're one of my kind
That sweetness that once shined in you gave way
To the sublime
The tax collector's asking for your next of kin
To settle all the debts that you have been
Collecting
Collecting
Easy come and easy go
They twist the knife it seems
That no one trusts in miracles
No one believes in dreams
As I watch you sleeping there I wonder for your mind
Hear your voice on the phonograph asking
Where are you tonight?
She runs so far
That holy litany
Dragnet the revival
She brings me misery
I will carry water for to wash your feet
No one knows the suffering of the unseen
Maria it's your birthday but you can't afford a cake
I'll be your messiah if the other one's too late
Futile love so far away
In Egypt's holy gate
Burning all the libraries
Litany of slaves
Keep me up remembering how I long for your love
Leave that time to passers by
Watch it come undone
Cut off from the message
No redemption, no grace
Hallelujah, world is ending
Don't be late
Freezing to death in the desert
Call that irony
Never knew pain
Like the city built on poverty
To keep the wealthy all fixed with fearing
I know the way back
But I'm better alone
I called on my god
But there was nobody home
It was the last ditch effort of a dying civilisation
You've got me
You've got me
You've got me always waiting
Log in to the mainframe
No enlightenment, no fame
Hallelujah, disappointment
There's no shame
Burning to death in the fires
of my lasting peace
Because freedom means missing you almost certainly
But I can't hold onto what just isn't there
Call it what you will I'll never care
I know the way back
But I'm better alone
I called on my god
But there was nobody home
It was the last ditch effort of a dying civilisation
You've got me
You've got me
You've got my always waiting
Praise be to the lion of Judah
Lion of Judah come my way
There's time for your revival
Lion of Judah come my way
Stand tall in the ceremony
Lion of Judah crimson tide
Racing heart let stillness keep you
Lion of Judah by and by
Hey!
Come my way!
Come on come on come on my way
Today!
Come my way!
Freedom come on come on my way
Holy word is slave and master
Lion of Judah come my way
Born again the way is faster
Lion of Judah come my way
In the camp or in your city
Lion of Judah speak my name
Rich or poor ugly or pretty
Lion of Judah please relate
Say hey!
Come my way
Come on come on come on my way!
Say hey!
Come my way!
Come on come on come on my way!
